Stajan to STL

Postby Bud McLeaf on Oct 17th, '08, 21:54

As heard on Hockey Central....The Blues are asking questions about Matt Stajan. Perhaps his starting against the Rangers was to showcase him. He did get a lot of TOI after being a healthy scratch the night before as well as taking the first shoot out shot over others such as Hagman.

it would be interesting to see that happen. he might flourish away from the limelight in another city. he has kind of been stuck in neutral for the last couple of years here in Toronto.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Stajan for McClement trade but that probably won't happen.
Fletch is trying to build up draft picks and probably wants more bench room, once Hollweg returns, so don't be surprised to see him go for a 2nd rounder.

Id also be interested in seeing how he does away from Toronto. Same with Steen. I think theyd both be better away from all the Toronto drama somewhere where they can just play hockey.

Whatever, Stajan and Steen both suk ballz. The Leafs wouldnt get *Jesse Barfeild* for them, they should be playin on Marlies. Id send them both down if I was in charge.

So you'd rather put them through waivers where they are sure to be picked up then getting something in return for them, even if it wasnt alot?
Good thing youre NOT in charge. :wtf:

Still want to get rid of him? His value is a lot higher right now.

Id wait a few more games then package him with Colai or White. They should get a decent return for that. Pittsburgh wont have room for Staal next year and having Gonchar and Whitney out makes White/Carlo pretty appealing but Pitts may want a pick too because either Stajan or Carlo/White may not fit in to their cap next season either.

Stajan makes 1.75 @ 2years and Carlo makes 1.4 @ 3 years. Now that 3.15 in salary minus Jordan Staal's $850,000 leaves the Penguins, who have 750,000 in space with an extra 2.3 million. The Leafs would probably have to pick up some salary as well in the form of a player which means they would probably need to add in a draft pick and a high one at that considering its Jordan Staal.
Im no Cap Guru so I dont know if the Leafs pick up some of Stajan, Carlo / White's salary or how it works but I am pretty sure Jordan Staal + 1 wouldn't be worth what we give up, especially the pick which is counter productive to a rebuilding team.

Me thinks Toronto and Pitsburgh would pay in full or a % of their traded players contract to the end of the season. Not sure either, its all very confusing with all the different clauses and *Jesse Barfeild*.
If that were the case, they could drop or trade one, or both of Darryl Sydor or Russalin Fedotenko in the off season or not resign players (not sure whos FA for them, can't find anything) to free up room for Stajan, White or Colaiacovo.

Right but they could do the same to keep Staal though it doesn't fill their need for a defenseman right now.
They could take Stajan right out off the trade and offer just Carlo or white plus a pick, Staal is young enough to justify the pick, but obv. don't give the first rounder for him.
Either way, I don't know. Id just wait and make an offer to Staal in the offseason if hes not restricted (Im to lazy to look it up)

Pretty sure that Whitney and Gonchar's salaries dont affect the Pens cap right now because they have been injured over the alotted days.
Staal going to Toronto in a trade is too far fetched for me. We'd have to give up too much, like our first rounder and I think theyd rather hold on to that for Tavares (LOL).

Do Toronto even have any high picks left? JFJ did a pretty good job of squandering them away for the likes of washed up players. They wont give up 09's 1st just incase they get a crack at Tavares.
I agree the only way Staal is coming to the Leafs is in an offseason signing. No chance of a trade.
