The chase for Mats Sundin continues and the list of suitors continues to grow.

The Ottawa Sun is reporting that the Senators remain in the hunt for the former Maple Leafs captain and that general manager Bryan Murray has held regular discussions with Sundin's representation in an attempt to bring the former Senators-killer to the Nation's Capital.

"The only thing I would say is that we remain interested," Murray told the Ottawa Sun.

Manny Ramirez in pinstripes?

Hank Steinbrenner said the Yankees will explore all options during the off-season, including the possibility of making an offer to the free-agent slugger.

"There's nothing we are not looking at," Steinbrenner said Friday at the Yankees' spring training complex. "And personally, I like Manny. He's one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game. He's a free spirit for sure, but he knows how to win. We like some of the other guys, too. We just don't know yet."

Ramirez was traded from Boston to the Dodgers on July 31, and Los Angeles is expected to attempt to re-sign the high-priced outfielder.

Kovalchuk Rumblings

According to the Ottawa Sun, a number of NHL GMs are talking about the Atlanta Thrashers, who might be willing to make a major trade this season.

The paper reports talk within the league claims Thrashers superstar Ilya Kovalchuk might become available.

Kovalchuk, 25, has one-year remaining on his contract, beyond this season, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2009-10 season.

Wild Offers up Gaborik


Marian Gaborik's days as a member of the Minnesota Wild could be ending sooner than later.

An unnamed NHL team executive told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune this week that Wild general manager Doug Risebrough has been actively shopping the star forward around the league and offered Gaborik to his team in a trade over the weekend.

According to the paper, the executive said he was not interested.

Gaborik is expected to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The 26-year-old is the team's all-time leading scorer with with 207 goals and 415 points in 487 games and has hit the 30-goal mark five times in seven seasons.

Peavy on the Move


The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres are in discussions on a deal that would involve starter Jake Peavy, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to the newspaper, a source close to the discussions said the deal would see Peavy head to Atlanta in exchange for a package of unidentified prospects.

The Padres have been shopping their ace pitcher and he has expressed interest in moving to a National League contender.
